LJM Racing Gets Mixed Results At Collie: BCM
Round 1 of the Krikke Boys Southern Thunder Series at Collie Speedway was one of mixed emotions & results for the two car LJM Racing operation last Saturday night.
The night started well after the threatening shower that passed by the venue just a few hours before racing was due to start, time trials on that track went pretty much to plan with Bradley timing 3rd fastest closely followed by big brother Jamie in 4th, just the start the boys would have hoped for, but it seemed to go a little bit pear shaped from there.
With the rain came the track conditions, & once manicured it produced speed, when a race track such as Collie Speedway has been wet like that, it produces nose to tail fast racing & with both the LJM Racing team cars qualifying so well, they both had heat race starting positions near the rear of the grid, heat 3 was a good result for Jamie Maiolo bringing the #99 LJM J&J home in 3rd place.
As the dashes made their way onto the track this where poor work by officials can ruin a good night at the track, after two attempted starts, the official deemed Jamie Maiolo to be part the cause of the situation, so the officials sent jamie ROF for the restart, with his blood boiling Jamie drove through the field from back in 8th position up to a creditable 5th, giving him a 5th row start for the final, what could have been a front row start, ended up poorly for the 99 Jamie Maiolo car.
Brad was up in the next dash race off the third row, this was again another fast event with the track producing blistering speeds, Bradley would finish the B dash in 3rd place, putting him on the 3rd row for the all important main event.
The feature event for Rd1 of the Southern Thunder Sprintcar series didn’t get off to the best start for Brad Maiolo in the #77 LJM Racing J&J, contact with Mark wells early in the race would force Bradley into the wall hard tipping the car on his side, forcing the reds on & Bradley Maiolo was out of the race. After a couple of more restarts where other cars also made hard contact with the wall the race went 20 laps nonstop & Jamie Maiolo was trying to weave his way through traffic, eventually getting up to 7th place, from there the two leaders spun & the heavens opened up, no more racing would take place on the night & Jamie Maiolo brought it home in 5th place.
LJM Racing will again be out at the next SEG round on November 12th at the Perth venue for
the traditional running of the Figliomeni Memorial.
