LJM Happy With First Season Opener: BCM
The 2011/12 Speedway season kicked off for LJM Racing last weekend in Perth, under duress conditions and a 3 hour rain delay the cars finally made it out on the track for the first time under lights around 7pm.
First up were the Sprintcars & LJM Racing duo Jamie & Brad Maiolo were the lucky ones being able to time in a group where the rack was not so greasy, to give you a sense of being there, under normal track conditions Sprintcars would time trial around the mid 13 second barrier, this track was so wet & heavy Brad second fast timed with a 17.412 a second lap & Jamie 3rd with a 17.728 a second lap time so an average of 4 seconds a lap slower than normal.
When the heats races made their way on the venue the track had come in a little, but it was still very tough & trying conditions for any driver, even the weight of the mud on a drivers helmet needs to be taken in consideration, Jamie was out first & with a good time trial was forced to start at the rear of his heat race, he quickly moved through the field to finish in 6th place. Much the same for Bradley in heat 2, he again also had a rear start & managed to come home in 7th place putting both the APB & Heatly cars in good position for the main event.
During the evening in the pits Sprintcar constructor hall of fame member Geoff Murphy was heavily involved in helping Jamie & Brad in car setup & this would figure strongly later in the night.
As the green fell with both the 99 & 77 cars in the first two rows a frantic pace was set, with in 5 laps the leaders including jamie Maiolo were into heavy traffic & lapped cars would force a lead chance putting Jamie back into second place, from that point Wells, J Maiolo & Madsen set about weaving their way through traffic, meanwhile Bradley wasn’t having the best feature race with a few cars coming together & Brad was forced to park the car up on the track to avoid further damage.
With less than 10 laps to go Jamie set about again after Wells to chase him down and take the lead back but momentum would be too far greater for Jamie and he was forced to settle for second place, for Bradley with a lap to go his car became parked in turn 4, so not the night he had hoped for to start the new season off.
LJM Racing will again be out at the next SEG round on November 12th at the Perth venue for the traditional running of the Figliomeni Memorial.
LJM Racing is proudly supported by: Australian Produce Brokers, Ausquip Industries, Heatley Industrial, Auto 1 Bunbury, KC Tools, Panelworx, LJM Produce, Maxwill Race Engines & The BCM Group.
