Maiolo Skips Away To Handy Points Advantage Author : Ken Brown

Check out the word "consistency" in the dictionary and you will probably find a picture or a reference to leading Western Australian Sprintcar driver Jamie Maiolo.

Maiolo has taken out six of the eleven AHG Sprintcar Series held so far and he has just opened up a 103 point advantage in the point standings for the 2011-12 campaign.

He is also the only driver in the history of the series to finish in the top ten pointscorers in every single season.

Round 12 of the competition was staged on Wednesday evening at the Manjimup Speedway in conjunction with the Hi-Tec World Series Sprintcars Championship.

Only eight of the 20 starters completed the gruelling A Main and Maiolo finished a creditable second after coming out of position 7 in the field.

The only other WA driver to complete the distance was Jamie Maiolo's younger brother Bradley. Quite a decent point scoring night for the Myalup siblings.

With the next few drivers in the rankings failing to finish the main event, Maiolo's lead over second placed Ben Ellement has jumped from 67 points out to 103 points. Bradley Maiolo has vaulted from sixth up to fifth in the standings with Kerry Madsen also moving up a notch - from seventh to sixth.

The battle for the minor placings in on in earnest with a mere 32 points separating second placed Ben Ellement and fifth placed Bradley Maiolo.

Coming up this weekend is the two-night showdown at the Coates Hire Bunbury City Speedway - with both Friday and Saturday night being pointscoring rounds for the AHG Sprintcar Series contestants.

The following weekend - February 17 and 18 - will see the Grand Final of World Series Sprintcars staged at the Perth Motorplex with two more pointscoring nights on the agenda.
